Starting point for this episode was the dissertation from Roel Bouman who did research into the use of robots in elderly care. Nurses have to spent a lot of time with patients to evaluate their health outcomes based on standardised questionnaires. In his research a robot was used to ask the questions to the elderly and collect their input. Roel was joined in the podcast by his promotor, Prof. Marcel Olde Rikkert from the geriatrics department at Radboudumc and Marieke Wieringa, a Phd candidate doing research on the interaction of people with robots. In the podcast we talk about the effects of using robots in communication with elderly. Do they like to communicate with robots or not and what are the benefits for healthcare provider and patient?
